Sara & Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center – Stockton University: Anne Frank Tree Planting Ceremony in Memory of Gail Hirsch Rosenthal
May 20 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Diary of a Young Girl, commonly referred to as “The Diary of Anne Frank,” recounts Anne Frank’s experience while in hiding with her family in the Secret Annex of her father’s business for two years during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Her diary has become one of the most powerful books used to teach the Holocaust.
From the Secret Annex, there was a window to the outside world. From that window, Anne enjoyed the view of a majestic chestnut tree. “From my favorite spot on the floor I look up at the blue sky and the bare chestnut tree…” she wrote in her diary, “… As long as this exist… I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be.”
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Sara & Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at Stockton University will plant a sapling from the original white horse chestnut tree celebrated by Anne Frank in her diary. This tree planting ceremony is in memory Gail Hirsch Rosenthal, former director of the Sara & Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center, to honor her dedication to Holocaust education. Please join us to witness the planting of a symbol of resilience and hope.
This event is free and open to the public. RSVP is required.
